Did you ever wonder why pre-school kids just don't seem to listen? Often it is down to the language we use.
Consider keeping it simple:
Positive language is the way to go. Label the behaviour that you want to see. For example, instead of “stop running” say, “We walk inside”.
Instead of bombarding kids with lots of language when you want something done like tidying up. Just state the obvious. For example, instead of saying "we need to clean up and I want you to help. Put that away now, come on we have to go and get your brother from school". Try slowing it down, give a thirty second warning, then count backwards from ten (like a rocket launch!) and simply say "it's time to tidy up now".
